Horse & Jockey Rally - Croc' spotting in the upper reaches.
in Cruising News & Reports
| High summer on July 4th, saw the R. Southerns' annual quest up the Limpopo……..sorry, Hamble, for an unlikely glimpse of the occasional wilderbeast or crocodile in the upper reaches. |
| Twenty-eight intrepid souls set off in a variety of open craft headed by the Club launch suitably re-named the "African Scream" and piloted by veteran white (haired) hunter 'Humphrey Stobart' and guided by our esteemed leader, 'Audrey Heartburn' aka Angus and Annette. |

Exbury Rally May 2008
in Cruising News & Reports
Having retired in 2001 and then sailed across the Atlantic to spend five years cruising, this RSrnYC Rally to Exbury was our first opportunity to sail mid-week with the Club.
What a delight it proved to be……….
We actually started off for this on the previous weekend by joining up with the Pontoon Party at Yarmouth, sadly it was a windless weekend but Pontoon Parties are notorious and this one did not fail to match up! |

Upper Helford River Tremayne Quay.
in Cruising Notes
| The charm of the Helford River will be known to all who explore the West Country. And there are a fair number of of well maintained ( green ) visitors moorings in the main reach with good pick-up buoys, whilst to the west of them is a small patch where anchoring is permitted, and the RNSA buoy will be found - for those entitled to use it. Restraints on anchoring to the west of this because of oyster beds and also further out near Grebe Rock ( eel grass preservation ) will be found updated in almanacs and pilots. |

Welcome Back Adrian Flanagan
in Cruising News & Reports
| HMS Trumpeter and several yachts and motorboats carrying family and friends met Adrian and his 40ft yacht Barrabas at East Bramble mark and accompanied him up the River Hamble to the Royal Southern Yacht Club, where a crowd of people was waiting on the dockside. |
| Mrs Annette Newton, Commodore of the Royal Southern Yacht Club, welcomed Adrian to Hamble. “We have all been amazed at your determination and tenacity” she said, “and we would like to make you an honorary member of the club for the next year”. |
| Website Editor Note: As Adrian was not actually racing we put this article in "Cruising" but to call his voyage a cruise would be the understatement of the year. |

Ladies Afloat - April Report
in Cruising News & Reports
| Oh ye of little faith! After what originally appeared to be a non-starter due to bad weather, the first Ladies Afloat outing of the season turned out to be a resounding success! |
| Despite the gloomy skies, rain & notwithstanding one or two earlier cancellations, a larger group than usual turned up in the upper bar of the Club at our pre-declared meeting time of 10:00 hrs. We chatted, looked glumly out of the window, drank some coffee, commiserated with one another, drank some more coffee and held a straw poll of intentions which varied from "definitely not" to "well, possibly" |

Ladies Afloat Days
in Cruising Committee
| As you may know, “Ladies Afloat” is a once a month, Wednesday outing when Ladies who perhaps do not have the opportunity to sail as much as they may wish, are encouraged to have a day out in company on a members’ boat. |
| No experience is necessary and whilst it is not an instructional course, the ladies are very welcome to join in the sailing/helming/sail trimming activities (or simply enjoy watching & chatting to the others) as they wish. |
