50 is the new 40! The Royal Southern Yacht Club reveals the average age of membership
The Royal Southern Yacht Club defies time, getting younger every year, with the average age of its membership now under 50.
The Club cites one of the key reasons for welcoming an increasingly younger membership is through its concerted efforts to host and manage a broad variety of on-water and on-shore activities whilst always maintaining the traditions and fundamental values of its Royal Yacht Club status.

Close racing in the combined IRC 1 and IRC 2 start on a breezy Saturday at the Gaastra August Regatta
Regatta Report: Phil Riley
Big or small, however, for some it was a return to the scene of previous triumphs, not least Mike Wallis and his J/109 Jahmali. Racing in the most competitive class in the whole regatta - IRC 2 - Jahmali also won by the narrowest margin, a single point.
A delighted Wallis said: 'I think I said at the beginning of the series back in May it was like Barbados out there and it's like it again - I don't know what the Royal Southern is doing but every weekend we have these Summer Regatta events the weather seems to come out to play. It's fantastic.

Trustees of Sir Edward Heath Foundation present Morning Cloud memento to Royal Southern Yacht Club
The Trustees of the Sir Edward Heath Foundation today presented a half model of Sir Edward's yacht, Morning Cloud 2, to the Royal Southern Yacht Club in Hamble-le-Rice, Hampshire.
It is intended as a memento of Britain's most celebrated sailing Prime Minister and of the central role the Club played in his sailing career. The Royal Southern was where Sir Edward and his crews put together their sailing strategies which led to his success in winning, inter alia, the Admiral's Cup in 1971.

Competitive sailing of the highest order
Regatta Report: Phil Riley Images: Paul Wyeth
The largest turnout for a Royal Southern Yacht Club July regatta since 2008 ensured that the 2014 Champagne Joseph Perrier supported event delivered competitive sailing of the highest order to the 73-strong racing fleet.
Numbers were enhanced by the fact that the July Regatta formed part of the on-going season-long IRC Solent Series and also encompassed the XOD Solent Championships, with no fewer than 16 of the venerable yachts taking part.

Royal Southern Summer Series - It certainly was not all 'Dark & Stormy' for the Mount Gay Rum June Regatta
Royal Southern Summer Series - It certainly was not all 'Dark & Stormy' for the Mount Gay Rum June Regatta
Report: Phil Riley & Peta Stuart-Hunt   Images: Michael Austen
This year is a big one for many of those sailing from the Royal Southern, and if they had to put up with a thunderstorm induced delay - as did the England football team in their final pre-World Cup game - it's hopefully not too unpatriotic to think the former may do rather better than the latter.
The start of the Club's Mount Gay Rum June Regatta was postponed for two hours to allow a storm cell to clear the area but, once departed, near-perfect sailing conditions
allowed some 65 crews across 12 classes to hone their skills for the challenges ahead.
