Spectacular Conclusion to the AVEVA September Regatta inc. J/111 UK National Championships and J/80 UK National Championships
Spectacular Conclusion to the AVEVA September Regatta inc. J/111 UK National Championships and J/80 UK National Championships
The Royal Southern’s summer racing series came to a spectacular conclusion as the AVEVA September Regatta provided some perfect late season Solent racing.
And if the on the water action delivered – once weekend mist on both days eventually dispersed and the breeze filled in - so did the onshore atmosphere in the club, described as ‘vibrant’ by a number of racing sailors.
With a diverse entry across 12 different classes there was a genuine mix of racing options, with the AVEVA-sponsored event also encompassing two national championships.

Day One of the AVEVA September Regatta - Sparkling Conditions and Close Competition
AVEVA September Regatta inc. J/111 UK National Championships and J/80 UK National Championships.
Racing for the first day of the AVEVA September Regatta was delayed until a stunning sea breeze filled in from the southwest to give a cracking day out on the Solent for a variety of classes racing with the Royal Southern Yacht Club. Sparkling sunshine and a gentle, but shifty breeze, provided ideal conditions for highly competitive racing.
Over 60 yachts were taking part with hundreds of crew returning to the Royal Southern Yacht Club to enjoy the full facilities of the club.

J/80 UK National Championship - Day One Report
J/80 UK National Championship - Day One Report
The first of three days competition for the J/80 UK National Championship was held in highly changeable conditions in the Eastern and Central Solent. PRO Stuart Childerley and his team aboard Angus and Annette's Swan 38 Kuutar, delivered four excellent race courses to the J/80 fleet.
After two races, an angry sky manifested to the west bringing thunder and rain. Once the viscous squall had passed, the wind settled in the southwest for the third race and by the fourth and final race, a sea breeze kicked in to enhance the gradient wind to a good 15 knots.

Yarmouth Midweek Rally
There was a meet of 16 boats and their crews in Yarmouth for the September midweek rally. The promise of good weather must have been the trigger that made us let go the mooring lines and set off for Yarmouth on a strong spring tide. The forecast was for North Westerly winds but the sea br...

Andy Oddie, Gareth Edwards and Rob Greenhalgh take victory at Stormforce Coaching SB20 National Championships
Skipper Andy Oddie, and his crew of Gareth Edwards and Rob Greenhalgh, are the 2015 SB20 National Champions, after winning three of the six-race series at the Royal Southern YC in Hamble on ‘Underground Toys’.
The Stormforce Coaching UK National Championships were held from Saturday September 5th to Sunday 6th, 2015 in a mix of conditions that included overcast and shifty winds on the first day, and a building sea breeze with sunshine on Day 2. Unfortunately the Indian summer temperatures and sunshine on Monday 7th also brought zephyr-light conditions which led to racing being cancelled for the day, but six good races had been completed for the 25-boat nationals fleet.
