A Cool’ish View from Hot Rats
A Cool’ish View from Hot Rats
What a frustrating race and anyone sailing who persevered and finished deserved a prize!
The fleet thoroughly approved of the morning start which, in conjunction with the lock opening times, meant the fleet, given the average crossing times, would be in early morning. Unfortunately the weather forecast by Friday morning suggested that this might be a bit tight given the light to non-existent winds.

Mid week rally to Beaulieu
Mid week rally to Beaulieu

"Early sun on Beaulieu water lights the underside of oaks"

It wasn't quite like John Betjeman's poem 'Youth and Age on Beaulieu River' when the hardy bunch of mid week ralliers sailed round to Bucklers Hard.  In spite of the weather 12 boats went to Bucklers Hard bringing around 30 people to a very lively pontoon party.

The breeze was gentle from the Northwest and the sun was shining but clouds bubbled up when the wind went round to the Southwest.
