Appointment of our new Club Secretary

Our new Chief Executive and Club Secretary, Mr Christopher Hogan has started with us. He believes his first priority is to get to know the staff and Members and plans to be much in evidence over coming weeks.

Christopher has spent the past five years as Chief Executive and Club Secretary of the In & Out (Naval and Military Club) in St James's Square. His earlier career was in the Army where, after Sandhurst, he served in the Army Air Corps as a helicopter pilot, before moving into various command and staff jobs, mostly overseas or in London, including working direct to the head of the Army on developing interoperability with our allies in Europe and North America. His final posting was as the principal military liaison officer in Paris, before leaving with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

While serving in Germany, he was captain of his regimental sailing team, racing Swans in the Baltic, and was director of all winter sports, including the Cresta! He also enjoys tennis and shooting.

We are delighted to have Christopher join us and I ask all members to give him every assistance as he gets to grips with the running of our yacht club.  Christopher looks forward to meeting as many Members as possible over the coming weeks.

Our Commodore Karen Henderson-Williams was recently interviewed by Sasha Twining on BBC Radio Solent's H20 slot.
Karen was asked about her childhood and how she got into sailing with her parents, how she progressed from dinghies into keel boats and about her role in helping to develop youth sailing at the Club. She explained her current role as well as her stewardship of the Royal Southern as only the second lady Commodore in the Club's 179 year history. Karen also discussed her aims and objectives for the Club going forward. It's a great listen, and we hope you enjoy it.
