Ladies Committee - March Events Reports

The Ladies Committee hosted their first coffee morning in aid of Dementia UK on Friday 4th March which raised over £600 which will all go to the charity.
The Ladies Committee members busied themselves before the event making a variety of delicious cakes and biscuits and hunting for a range of raffle prizes. We were delighted to find that we have some 'star bakers' amongst us.

The RYA Sail for Gold Ball is back!

Usually a celebration of US independence, this 4th July will see the British sailing community come together in London to celebrate the sailors of the Olympic and Paralympic teams striving to sail for gold at Rio 2016.
The Sail for Gold Ball, held only in each Olympic year, serves as both a British Sailing Team fundraiser and a celebratory send-off for the selected Games sailors, this time on their way to Rio in pursuit of gold in their respective 10 Olympic and three Paralympic events.

OOJAH's Atlantic Odyssey
OOJAH's Atlantic Odyssey
Another in our occasional Cruising Logs series.
We are now well & truly weathered in with heavy rain showers & 25 kts of wind gusting to 35 so we're rocking a bit in the outer harbour. We met up with some old Guernsey friends for lunch at the Guernsey YC & are joining Tim & Karen Gabriel tonight so it's not too bad, but when we'll be on our way goodness knows?

Winter Series Wrap Up…
Winter Series Wrap Up…
The Inaugural Royal Southern Yacht Club Academy Winter Series got underway in late November having lost one day to winter storms. What followed was two days of exciting, close and breeze-on sportsboat racing in J70 and J80 classes.
After a short postponement race one got underway in a building breeze of 20 knots or so, with conservative starts from the majority of the fleet. A short, 3 lap course was set which was eventually shortened owing to the building breeze.

Taking down Christmas decorations can be a rather sad occasion but not this year
Taking down Christmas decorations can be a rather sad occasion but not this year

Our Commodore Karen Henderson-Williams was recently interviewed by Sasha Twining on BBC Radio Solent's H20 slot.
Karen was asked about her childhood and how she got into sailing with her parents, how she progressed from dinghies into keel boats and about her role in helping to develop youth sailing at the Club. She explained her current role as well as her stewardship of the Royal Southern as only the second lady Commodore in the Club's 179 year history. Karen also discussed her aims and objectives for the Club going forward. It's a great listen, and we hope you enjoy it.
