Folly Rally - April 2016
The first mid week rally of the season got off to a flying start with 12 boats and 28 people who were all determined to enjoy themselves as you can see - far more than usual for this time of the year. There was no wind on the Tuesday so most of us motored but an intrepid Mike Austin on 'Up to Speed' had a spinnaker run the whole way from Port Solent.

Corhampton, and Shooting at Owls Lodge held in
the last month.
The first Solent Rally of the year is fast
approaching and with many other events for 2016
we have a full programme of events both on and
off the water.
Hamble Classics at the Southern Regatta - Entries open and NoR published
The Royal Southern Yacht Club will host and run the inaugural 'Hamble Classics at the Southern' Regatta on 24-25th September 2016.
Today it announces the publication of its Notice of Race (NoR) including eligibility criteria and an attractive entry fee structure.
The International Metre classes, Classic Racers and Cruisers, Spirit of Tradition yachts plus Old Gaffers and Dayboats will enjoy the superb facilities at one of the UK's top yacht clubs, with first class race management and a social programme to match.

The Royal Southern Yacht Club is the mainland HUB Club for this year's J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race

The Royal Southern Yacht Club has been granted the exclusive right by the Island
Sailing Club (ISC) to be the mainland HUB Club for this year's Round the Island
Race, the last under J.P. Morgan's 12-year title sponsorship.
The Royal Southern, who also acted as a South Coast HUB in 2015, will be showing
the Race EventTV feed throughout the weekend (Friday 1st-Sunday 3rd July 2016)
that includes Friday evening's live coverage of the Raymarine Weather Brief,
live coverage of Saturday's starts, competitor notices/information and the ISC's
full classified results service.

A perfect weekend of match racing at the Match Cup ISAF Grade 4 Qualifier

Over an action-packed weekend (9-10 April),
teams from across Europe descended on the Royal Southern Yacht Club for an
exciting ISAF Grade 4 match racing competition - the qualifying round and
prelude to the main event, the ISAF Grade 2 Match Racing Final taking place
After some really close racing the 'home' Royal Southern team, led by Annabel
Vose (GBR) with Hannah Peters, Amy Prime, Rob Gullan and Piers Hugh-Smith,

First 2K Team Racing event deemed a success by the Royal Southern YC
Question: How do you cram all the different racing scenarios that you might encounter over a season into one day on the water?
Answer: Go 2K Team Racing at the Royal Southern...and they did!
'2K' is defined as two boat team racing in keel boats, with mixed gender crews
and no spinnakers. Team racing provides short, high intensity races with lots of
close quarter encounters between boats.

The Royal Southern Yacht Club scores a big hit with its Start of Season day
With a top-quality line up of Championships, Regattas and hosted events that will cement its position as one of the leading Yacht Clubs in Northern Europe in 2016, the Hamble-based Royal Southern Yacht Club has just thrown open its doors to members and non-members to celebrate the Start of Season day.
The Royal Southern is the largest club on the river Hamble delivering an ever-expanding programme of racing events to members of all ages; from youngsters in Optimists through to small keelboat and offshore racers. Members and visiting teams are accustomed to enjoying the best standards of racing and shoreside facilities in the world and this year will be no exception.

Cruising Log & Blog Winners Announced
Peter and Christene Tanner took the prize for best blog, with the story of their 4 month cruise around the Baltic, covering 2,500 nautical miles; Oojah's Baltic Bash - a Tale of Grape and Spillage.
Robbie Boulter took the Read Cruising Log trophy for his wild & stormy account of a month-long cruise to the west coast of Ireland.

Ladies Committee - March Events Reports
The Ladies Committee hosted their first coffee morning in aid of Dementia UK on Friday 4th March which raised over £600 which will all go to the charity.
The Ladies Committee members busied themselves before the event making a variety of delicious cakes and biscuits and hunting for a range of raffle prizes. We were delighted to find that we have some 'star bakers' amongst us.
