The Club was delighted to welcome Jim Davidson OBE – comedian, entertainer, and Royal Southern Club member — as guest speaker at the Fundraising Team’s Autumn Charity Lunch, on October 24th, a beautiful sunny day that perfectly matched the cheerful spirit of the occasion.
A lively gathering of 100 guests — an even balance of men and women – filled the Britannia Bar, where the friendly buzz of conversation and laughter set the tone for a wonderful afternoon.
Following a superb lunch, Jim captivated the audience with his trademark wit, warmth, and candour, sharing stories from his extraordinary career and his many visits performing for the military in conflict zones around the world. His easy rapport with guests, along with some light-hearted exchanges – particularly with our sound expert, Andy -have some created a relaxed and engaging atmosphere. Beneath the laughter, Jim’s reflections offered a touching reminder of the courage and sacrifices of our armed forces.
We are delighted to announce that £1,200 was raised for Care After Combat, the veterans’ charity founded by Jim. A generous raffle added to the day’s success, featuring some fantastic prizes including two £50 Thursday Club Supper vouchers donated by the Club’s Executive team, a Caribbean rum basket, a Gin goodies hamper, a magnum of rosé with chocolates, and a beautiful M&S orchid, prizes most kindly contributed by members of the Fundraising Team.
It was an honest, uplifting, and thoroughly enjoyable afternoon, appreciated by all who attended. Our sincere thanks go to Jim for giving so generously of his time and talent, and to everyone who supported the event and contributed to its success.
