Youth Pathway

Discover the Royal Southern Youth Pathway

From first time afloat to competitive racing, the Royal Southern Yacht Club Youth Pathway is designed to support young sailors at every stage of their development.

Based on the River Hamble with the Solent on our doorstep, the Royal Southern Yacht Club has created an integrated youth programme focused on building confidence, developing sailing skills and creating a lifelong love of the sport.

Whether your child is stepping into a boat for the first time, progressing through RYA stages, or moving into race coaching and regatta sailing, there is a clear pathway to help them grow on and off the water.

The Youth Pathway

The Royal Southern Youth Pathway brings together three key areas of youth sailing:

  • Splash Club for U8 sailors and those building confidence on the water – includes our flagship event Splash Week for all junior / youth sailors
  • Junior Academy for sailors 8+ progressing through RYA stages and youth racing
  • Youth Academy for sailors aged 15+ continuing into advanced racing and performance sailing

The pathway combines fun, confidence-building, structured training and racing development, with opportunities to progress at the right pace for each sailor.

Typically taking place in late August, Splash Week is volunteer parent-led and supported by qualified instructors. As parents accompany their children throughout the week, it also provides a fantastic introduction to the wider Club community and everything the Royal Southern has to offer.
